The Joint Entrance Exam is conducted every year for candidates seeking admissions in undergraduate engineering programmes in the prestigious IITs, NITs, IIITs and various other CFTIs (Centrally Funded Technical Institutions) across the country. Career Launcher had the opportunity to speak to a few students who appeared in for the JEE Main 2019 exam and this is what they have to say about the paper.
JEE Main 2019: Level of paper
1.Firstly, the general consensus was that the level of the paper was moderate with respect to previous year papers as well as prevalent expectations before the paper.
2.The questions asked in the paper were not of a very high level. They were designed to gauge how well the candidates had understood the basic concepts.
3.Some students said that they recalled seeing similar if not same questions in the NCERT books itself.
4.A student with a good grasp of the fundamentals would have been able to attempt a high number of questions without having to break a sweat.
Mathematics: One of the toughest sections for some
While the views on the level of the paper were consistent, it was hard to ascertain which section was tougher as everybody had their own subjective views. One of our students, Sudhanshu Singh found the mathematics section to be hard, the physics section to be moderate. He said that the chemistry section was easy but a bit lengthy. Most students at the centre seemed to agree that chemistry was the easier section.
Students comfortable with online tests
Regarding the experience of taking the tests online for the very first time, students seemed to be comfortable with the process. There were no complaints about the computers provided for the tests, technical glitches during the exam, the seating arrangements or other facilities provided at the centre. Career Launcher students, in particular, remarked that they saved considerable time switching between sections as the interface provided to them in the online mock tests was the same as that of the actual exam.
